Gifts by who you’re buying for
Not sure what kind of photographer they are? Start with the one that sounds most like them.
For the beginner
Someone who’s curious about film but hasn’t started. A point & shoot is pocketable, needs no settings and gives them the film look from the first roll. Add a roll of Kodak Gold so they can shoot on Christmas Day.
For the film photographer who has a camera
Skip the body and buy the thing they keep meaning to get: a vintage prime lens for their mount, a light meter, a leather strap or a brick of professional film.
For the Y2K kid
Compact early-2000s digicams from Canon, Fujifilm, Nikon and Panasonic, tested and working, for the low-fi flash look that’s all over their feed. No film costs, just a memory card.
For instant gratification
Polaroid and Instax cameras make a photo you can hold in minutes, which makes them the best camera to open on Christmas morning. Pair with a pack of film.
For the collector
Rolleiflex and Yashica twin-lens reflexes, Mamiya medium format, classic rangefinders and boxed examples with their original packaging. Cameras to keep, not just use.
For the one who wants to learn properly
A manual 35mm SLR with a 50mm lens is how most photographers learned exposure. The Pentax K1000, Olympus OM10 and Canon AE-1 Program are the three we recommend most.
Our top gift picks
The cameras we’d put under our own trees. Each one is tested, comes with a lens where shown, and is ready to shoot.

Rob Neal, August 2025Gift buying FAQs
What people ask us every December.
Which film camera is the best gift for a beginner?
For someone who has never shot film, a point & shoot like the Olympus Trip 35 is the safest choice: no settings, a sharp lens and a camera that looks the part. If they want to learn properly, a manual SLR with a 50mm lens, such as the Olympus OM10 or Pentax K1000, is the classic first camera. Our beginner’s guide goes into more detail.
Does the camera come with film?
Film is sold separately unless the listing says otherwise. Add a roll of Kodak Gold 200 or a pack of Instax film to the order so they can start shooting straight away.
Are the cameras tested before they’re sold?
Yes. Every film camera we sell is fully tested and reconditioned by our team before it’s listed, so it’s ready to load and shoot the day it arrives.
What if they’d prefer a different camera?
Our normal returns policy applies to gifts. The details, including timeframes, are on our returns & refunds page. If you’re unsure which camera to pick, a gift card lets them choose.
Will it arrive before Christmas?
Order by [DD December] for UK delivery before Christmas. International orders need longer, and our full Christmas posting dates are on the delivery page. Gift cards are emailed instantly, so they’re never too late.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping options and costs are shown at checkout once you enter the delivery address.
Still not sure?
Tell us who you’re buying for and your budget, and we’ll suggest two or three cameras we’d be happy to give ourselves.
