The Olympus OM-2 represents a significant evolution in 35mm SLR design, featuring dual-mode operation with aperture-priority automation and full manual control via a dedicated switch. Debuting in 1975 as a successor to the OM-1, this camera retained the predecessor's lightweight yet durable chassis while integrating advanced exposure technology. Technical specifications include a horizontal cloth focal plane shutter (1s-1/1000s plus Bulb), ISO sensitivity from 25-1250, and dimensions of 137×55×88mm with a mass of 537g. The OM-2's complete backward compatibility with the OM system ecosystem ensured seamless integration of existing lenses and accessories, establishing it as a logical progression for OM-1 users. Production continued until 1988, with both silver and black finishes available.
